The 8th Street Legacy: From Ice Plant to MarTech Studio
The historical site on 8th Street in Tempe—most famous as the Borden Milk Co. Creamery and Ice Factory and later home to Four Peaks Brewing Company—has deep roots in the valley's commercial history.
Historic development on 8th
The original complex was built in 1892, initially opening as the F.A. Hough Ice Plant before transitioning into dairy operations as the Tempe Creamery. The railroad tracks passing through this specific site along 8th Street—known historically as the "Creamery Branch" or Mesa Branch—were first laid out between 1886 and 1887. This early rail line connected Phoenix and Tempe to the national rail grid, wrapping around University Drive and cutting past what later became the 8th Street creamery complex.
Continuing the Tradition of Production
For over a century, these walls have housed innovators who built things from the ground up—from ice and dairy to craft brewing. Today, we are proud to write the next chapter of 8th Street's story at 1310 E. 8th St. #117. As batt.us, we’ve brought our digital infrastructure, web development, and marketing agency operations right back into this historic industrial hub. Some spaces just carry a different kind of energy for building things.
